Layman Poupard Publishing (LPP) was founded in 2010 by Richard Layman and Dennis Poupard, building on the resources of Bruccoli Clark Layman (BCL), a forty-year-old, award-winning reference-resource production company specializing in literary and social history. Layman, president of BCL, and Poupard, a former executive vice president at Thompson Gale, have more than seventy years combined experience in academic publishing.
LPP employs a team of professionals, who produce reference works from content creation to ready-to-publish resources. We generate text and edit, code, typeset, proofread, and coordinate markup. Our permissions department procures necessary reprint licenses. Our reference works are published in both print and web-based formats.
The guiding principle of LPP is a commitment to editorial quality. We commission content from freelance academics and arrange vetting by academic specialists. Our experienced in-house editors check copy meticulously for accuracy and style, and their work is reviewed by our senior editors. We have personnel at five major university libraries, who conduct bibliographical research, content retrieval, and source verification.
Our scheduling department coordinates generation and production of 111 published volumes in the Literary Criticism Series (LCS) annually, comprising more than 25 million words. LPP has been the sole producer of LCS since 2012. Our permissions department licenses some 3,000 critical essays for republication annually. Our production team prepares indexes and content for both print and web-based publication. LCS is regarded as a standard of quality for literary reference works.
Content Creation and Editorial
LPP partners with acknowledged leaders in academia to develop comprehensive, up-to-date materials providing both factual information and the thematic analysis demanded by today’s students and researchers.
Our editors rigorously evaluate previously published material for inclusion in the Literature Criticism series, resulting in a curated collection of the best critical essays on a given subject.
These essays, when combined with detailed overviews and sources of further information, provide a complete resource for the study of authors and their works, as well as literary time periods, genres, movements, and themes.
